Born 1937 in Passaic, New Jersey, David received an Engineering Degree from Stevens Institute of Technology, then earned a Masters and Doctorate in Physics from Princeton University. His lifelong hobby of ensemble recorder playing began at Princeton, where his research interests involved astrophysics and relativity. After teaching two years at Princeton, he then taught at Wesleyan University in Connecticut. Seeking a warmer climate, in 1975, he moved to Florence, AL, to join the Department of Physics and Earth Science faculty at our University of North Alabama. In 1979 he became a full time professor and Director of the Observatory and Planetarium. David enjoyed presenting Planetarium shows for the next 20 years to thousands of school children and adults, in addition to teaching University Physics and Astronomy courses. He met and married Janice, his “southern gal” in 1982. Retirement in 1999, allowed him to pursue lifelong interests in genealogy and history. David writes a monthly science column for the Kidsville News which is circulated to all elementary schools in these two counties and also writes a weekly history column for a local paper. He volunteers weekly at the hospital in Florence and at the Florence Lauderdale Public Library Bookstore. As a board member of the Natchez Trace Genealogical Society and the Tennessee Valley Historical Society, he continues to be involved in local history.
