Vance Hawkins is a proud Oklahoman with an avid love for jogging, his dog and research. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and a minor in Physics. His mathematic background has encouraged his research tactics into his own genealogy. Through research into his genealogy he discovered he has Cherokee and Catawban ancestry. This spurred his research even more and eventually caused him to write his first book Finding Our Indian Blood. Vance Hawkins is very passionate about telling the stories of the people who make up his ancestry. In his second book Catawba-Saponi-Melungeon, soon to be published, he strives to tell the story of Catawban people, who are often overlooked in the retelling of Native American history. This book tells the history of the Catawba people and the Melungeon’s of Newman’s Ridge.
Vance is passionate about his research into a wide variety of topics. He strives to continue researching whatever peaks his curiosity. With his dog by his side, he hopes to write about these different research topics in future books and blog posts.
